Seminar & interactive discussion: Implementation science innovation I Equity-centered design thinking

Join us for a two-part event with Dr. Alessandra Bazzano of Tulane University. The seminar will take place from 1-2 p.m. in Steinberg Auditorium located in Steinberg Hall. The interactive discussion will take place from 2-3 p.m. in Room 130 of Hillman Hall. A virtual option will be provided for the seminar only.

This event is free and open to the public. However, registration is required for both portions of this event. In-person attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch.

Seminar | 1-2 p.m.

Alessandra N. Bazzano, PhD, MPH, will discuss translating design thinking within the context of implementation science (IS).

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify the promises and pitfalls of design thinking for optimizing health research
  2. Summarize important design capabilities for health researchers
  3. Clarify potential logistical and ethical barriers to using design in IS
  4. Reflect on the way forward for translating design thinking in the context of IS

Interactive Discussion | 2-3 p.m.

The interactive discussion will feature keynote Dr. Bazzano, along with Penina Acayo Laker and Liz Kramer from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.

About the speaker

Alessandra N. Bazzano, PhD, MPH
Associate Professor, Department of Social, Behavioral, and Population Sciences and Director of Tulane’s Center of Excellence in Maternal Child Health
Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine

Alessandra Bazzano’s work applies a social innovation approach and design thinking methods to health behavior research and programming in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the United States. Her academic interests focus on the social and behavioral context for health, particularly as it relates to women and young children in low-income environments. Empathy, ideation, and iteration are key concepts in her teaching and research. A native New Orleanian and Tulane alumna, she seeks to build a core research area in design thinking for social and behavioral change as part of her work in social innovation and social entrepreneurship.

Seminar: Steinberg Auditorium is located in Steinberg Hall and is part of the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. Get directions.

Lecture: Room 130 is located on the first floor of Hillman Hall and is part of the Brown School, which is located just west of Sam Fox and the East End Garage. View directions and parking information for the Brown School.

Limited visitor parking is available in the East End Garage at the intersection of Forsyth Blvd. and Wrighton Way.
