Bernard Becker Professor, Timothy McBride, PhD, co-director of the Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy and Economics Research will speak on “Translating Research to Policy”. Civic Action Week is a series of civic engagement opportunities throughout WashU during which student groups, faculty, staff, and community partners will host events and other opportunities to engage
On Feb. 21, from 2-3 p.m. at Brown Lounge, McBride will discuss how understanding policy making is crucial for researchers who wish to make true change. This is a unique opportunity to understand and learn how to overcome the culture clash between researchers and policy makers who are both interested in making an impact.
McBride, an influential health policy analyst and Bernard Becker Professor at the Brown School, will share best practices and tips for designing written products that will effectively communicate and maximize the policy impact of research. He will also share some examples of how he has worked with and influenced policy makers in his own career.
The Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy and Economics Research aims for the event to inspire students to think about the end users of their research and ways in which they can become directly involved in policy making processes. The Feb. 21 event will also be available via Zoom. Registration is required.
Public Health Faculty Scholars, Jay Turner, DSc, the James McKelvey Professor of Engineering Education, and Brian Carpenter, PhD, co-director at the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging, are also participating in events during the week that highlight WashU civic engagement opportunities.
