Know Your Level of Community Engagement: Sections I & II

Presented by Dr. Vetta Sanders Thompson, this Lunch & Learn series, Know Your Level of Community Engagement, has two parts. If you attended the Lunch & Learn event on July 18th, it is not necessary for you to take part in section I. Lunch will be provided at noon. Please register for all parts of this event for which you intend to participate.

Section I: 10:45am – Noon

Know Your Level: Matching community engagement to research objectives is the first in a series of Lunch and Learn sessions focused on community-engaged research. Community-engaged research is defined and explored along the continuum on which it occurs. Activities and strategies appropriate to a variety of research topics are described.

Upon completion of this session, researchers will:

  1. Be able to define community engaged research.
  2. Understand the levels of community engaged research.
  3. Select community engaged strategies appropriate to their research interests and topics.

Section II: 12:15pm – 1:30pm

Know Your Level: Moving from collaborative work to community-based participatory research is the 2nd lecture in this Lunch and Learn series. The session focuses on researcher efforts to move from collaborative research activities to an operational partnership. Activities and strategies appropriate to a variety of research topics are described.

Upon completion of this session, researchers will:

  1. Be able to define and discuss collaborative levels of community engaged research.
  2. Be able to explain the distinction between collaborative research and partnership formation.
  3. Be able to identify potential partners, strategies for negotiating the principles that will guide the partnership and articulation of partnership goals, shared resources and operations.
