Institute presents 14th annual conference, Oct. 27

According to a 2020 poll, “More than 7 in 10 Americans believe public health plays an important role in the health of their community.” As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, how do we recognize the value of public health for the future? How do we prepare our public health infrastructure for future emergencies? Can we strengthen public trust in our health leaders and processes? In what ways can we align health care systems and fortify infrastructure, so that they are ready when we need them most?

On October 27, the Institute for Public Health will present its 14th annual public health conference, “Transforming Public Health: Learning from the Past, Preparing for the Future”. The hybrid event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. virtually via Zoom webinar and live, with limited seating available, at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Washington University Medical Campus.

The conference will feature nationally recognized guests including Leana Wen, MD, an emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, a contributing columnist to The Washington Post and a frequent medical analyst on CNN.

Presentations and discussions will include the topics: equity in vaccine distribution in the U.S. and around the globe, efficiencies (and inefficiencies) in national and state public health infrastructure, and effective public communication strategies during and after a public health emergency.

Due to campus COVID-19 restrictions, seating for the live event will be limited and by reservation only. Attendees will be expected to follow WashU’s public health requirements and any other guidelines deemed necessary. In the event that maximum capacity is reached on the Zoom webinar, virtual attendees will be directed to the event’s live stream.

To receive additional information on attendance and speaker updates, immediate registration is suggested. View and download the event flyer.
