Friedman Center Three Minute Thesis Student Competition

January 5, 2018

The Institute for Public Health’s Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging is seeking graduate, professional, and medical students to participate in a Three Minute Thesis competition that will highlight topics related to aging and aging societies.

At the Friedman Center, we aim to highlight the spectrum of aging-relevant experiences in our seminars, events, and work we support here at WashU. This includes highlighting topics of interest for research and practice among students. The Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland, Australia. This competition format challenges students to communicate an issue they are passionate about to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.

We will host a 3MT® competition on March 21, 2018 on the Danforth campus at 5:30 pm. Students who are interested in participating must register by February 23. This is an opportunity for you to refine your presentation skills, meet other students with an interest in aging, and potentially win up to $300! The top three contestants will also present their winning 3MT® at the Friedman Center’s Crash Course in Aging event to be held on April 4, 2018.

Events

Optional information sessions for registered contestants will be held on both Washington University campuses. Detailed information about these sessions will be provided at a later date.

Eligibility

All current Washington University graduate or professional (e.g., masters, JD, PhD) and medical students are invited to compete. Topics must be related to aging, including effects of occurrences early in life to outcomes or experiences in later life. Students who compete in the Liberman Graduate Center’s competition are welcome to register for our competition.
