Dr. Schneider is interested in how patients and physicians make health care decisions under their unique organizational and environmental constraints. In particular, as national initiatives promote shared decision-making in an effort to achieve “high-quality” health care, we need more research on what impedes and enhances the decision-making processes for patients and physicians. Rhinosinusitis, Dr. Schneider’s clinical focus, offers a unique platform for analysis as it involves a broad range of decision-making including acute and non-acute decisions, decisions for elective vs. non-elective procedures, and cost considerations for stakeholders. It further offers opportunity to study how disease impact in non-health related quality of life affects clinical decision-making.
