Because obesity is a national epidemic and contributes to between 11 and 14% of all cases of heart failure, Dr. Peterson is dedicated to investigating the causes of obesity-related cardiac dysfunction. She uses multiple different imaging to quantify the myocardial alterations seen in obesity and heart failure and has helped develop a novel lipidomic biomarker that predicts outcomes in large community-based cohorts, such as the Framingham Heart Study. Clinically, Dr. Peterson has also developed a large, on-going registry of the first-ever outpatient Pritikin-Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (ICR) program in the country. She is also investigating the effects of metabolic therapies on patients with cancer, which affects millions of patients in the U.S. alone and many more worldwide.
