The following are frequently asked questions regarding the poster session for our Public Health at WashU Annual Conference. This year’s conference—The Next Era of Public Health: Equity-informed approaches to innovative technologies & workforce development—will take place on October 21 & 22.
The poster session will take place on on October 22 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Eric P. Newman Education Center. Posters will be on display throughout the conference.
Can I have multiple submissions?
Yes, you may submit multiple poster abstracts. It is possible not all of your submissions will be accepted, especially if we receive a large number of submissions. Please consider that you will need to have presenters at each poster that is accepted during the poster session from 12:30-1:30pm on October 22.
Who can submit a poster abstract?
We invite students, faculty, staff, and community organizations to submit poster abstracts that relate to public health topics or the theme of the conference. You do not need to be affiliated with WashU to submit.
How long should my abstract be?
Please keep your abstract to 250 words or less.
How will I find out if I have been accepted?
We will notify the lead abstract author by email on October 1.
I will be presenting/have already presented this work at another conference, can I still submit for the Public Health at WashU poster session?
Yes. We welcome submissions regardless of whether they have or will be presented elsewhere.
What size should my poster be?
The only specification we have is that the poster must not exceed 44 inches tall and 70 inches wide. Please check with your printer regarding what dimensions they accept. Many templates are formatted for 24”x36” or 36”x48”.
The Knight ADRC has some helpful guidance with poster sizes and templates. We recommend them as a printer.
What material should my poster be printed on?
Paper or lightweight fabric or vinyl are all recommended. Push pins will be provided to hang your poster onto the board or wall. Please consider this when choosing your material.
Is there a template I should use?
There is no particular template we require authors to use. We recommend checking out templates from Poster Nerd. The Office of Undergraduate Research also has some helpful information on their website.
Where can I have my poster printed?
We recommend the Knight ADRC or WashU Libraries for printing on campus. FedEx Office also provides poster printing services and has locations on the WashU Medical and Danforth Campuses.
We will provide financial assistance for poster printing for students and community members. A student must be full-time at WashU and not hold a full-time faculty position. Community members must be part of a local nonprofit organization.
What does my participation as a poster presenter entail?
If accepted, you will be responsible for having your poster printed, posting your poster at the conference by 9:30 a.m., and having someone available to discuss your poster from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on October 22nd at the Eric P. Newman Education Center. We will also need the confirmed title and authors for your poster by October 16.
Will posters be judged at the conference?
While abstracts go through a judging process, accepted posters will not be judged. A certificate of participation can be provided upon request following the conference.
