Byron J. Powell, PhD, Associate Professor at the Brown School, has been named co-Director of the Center for Dissemination and Implementation (CDI) alongside Director, Elvin Geng, MD. Powell was previously the center’s associate director and will continue to lead its Implementation Methods & Metascience Initiative. He will also serve as co-Director of the Dissemination and Implementation Research Core of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences.
“Byron and I will work closely together to refresh a vision and strategy for advancing implementation science at Washington University and internationally,” said Geng. “Byron is committed to shaping the evolving core methods and perspectives in the field of implementation science and we will call on him to lead in that way.”
Powell’s research focuses on efforts to improve the quality of health and social services. He has a particular interest in mental health and co-directs the Brown School’s Center for Mental Health Services Research. Specifically, his research involves designing, tailoring, and assessing the effectiveness of strategies to move evidence-based practices into routine care.
“I look forward to helping implementation science evolve at WashU,” said Powell. “We are fortunate that many of the leading scholars in the field are here in St. Louis. We owe them a debt of gratitude for creating such a generative and supportive environment. I am excited to work with Elvin and the CDI team as we strive to conduct innovative research, develop new resources for investigators, and nurture a highly collaborative and transdisciplinary approach to implementation at WashU and beyond.” To learn more about dissemination and implementation research and related WashU resources, visit the dissemination & implementation research website.
