Abigail L. Carlson, MD

Assistant Professor of Medicine, Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine

Dr. Carlson is currently the medical director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care System, where she is also the associate hospital epidemiologist and a clinical infectious disease physician.

Her research has included work on urinary tract infection diagnostics, interventions to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and approaches to pandemic influenza response. Dr. Carlson’s current research is focused on antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention in resource-challenged settings, computerized decision support for antimicrobial stewardship in clinical practice, and the relationship between clinical software design and clinical decision making. She is also affiliated faculty in the International and Area Studies program.
