Allan Doctor, MD, focuses on research which explores the best means to optimize the practice of pediatric critical care medicine. Active projects are based in the PICU in Blantyre, Malawi in two main areas of focused study: (1) use of field-deployable integrative physiology measures to identify children with common illnesses (e.g. malaria, dehydration, malnutrition) who are marginally compensated and at risk for shock; (2) translation of functional (as opposed to capital) infrastructure (supply chain, clinical engineering, process improvement, etc.) to improve ICU outcomes.
