James M. Fleckenstein, MD

Associate Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine

Dr. Fleckenstein’s research is focused on the molecular pathogenesis of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC), an important cause of diarrheal illness in developing countries, and on the identification and characterization of novel vaccine antigens.

His ongoing collaboration with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research in Bangladesh provides a rich environment for both basic discovery and the translational aspects these endeavors, as he works to inform rational and holistic approaches required for development of a broadly protective ETEC vaccine
