Dr. Garbutt has specialty training in family medicine and community health, and is interested in research to improve the quality of care in the ambulatory setting. Particular interests include assessment of treatment strategies for upper respiratory illnesses in children and adults, and developing and evaluating methods to change physician behavior and improve the quality of care.
Dr. Garbutt founded and directs a practice-based research network (PBRN) of community pediatricians in St. Louis. Current PBRN projects address asthma care, breast-feeding and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption.
