air quality, environmental health, health care delivery, healthcare-associated infections, infectious disease, quality, performance & process improvement

Greenhouse gas emissions significantly contribute to climate change. Healthcare in the United States is responsible for a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Dr. Burnham’s interest is in characterizing the carbon footprint of the care of patients with sepsis as it is a medical condition that consumes a lot of healthcare resources. In the future, he hopes to expand his work outside of sepsis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in order to help reduce the carbon footprint of healthcare more broadly.
