Dr. Barnoya’s main research interest is chronic disease prevention and control through evidence-based policy. He has conducted policy-relevant research on tobacco control and obesity in order to support population based strategies of prevention.

Dr. Barnoya also conducts research on chronic kidney disease in Guatemala. His research interests also include the use of mHealth to reach out to poor Hispanic patients in Guatemala and the US. He is also engaged in building research capacity and mentoring in Guatemala and the US.
