Dr. Patel’s clinical practice focuses on treating adult and pediatric patients with craniofacial deformities. Most cases of facial fractures are due to trauma and Dr. Patel notes that patients who have experienced this trauma have an increased rate of prior substance abuse putting them at greater risk of becoming addicted to opioids. As opioid addiction is one of our nation’s greatest public health issues, Dr. Patel’s aim is to study this patient population; provide automated feedback to help with pain control, decrease the amount of opioid use and ensure that the recent change in prescription provides adequate pain relief.
