Professor Washington studies interventions designed to promote the biopsychosocial, spiritual and cultural wellbeing of individuals, families and communities experiencing serious and life-limiting illnesses. Much of her work utilizes digital health solutions in the related fields of hospice and palliative care. Ongoing projects include a randomized clinical trial of a cognitive-behavioral intervention for family caregivers of individuals with cancer receiving outpatient palliative care, and an intervention to educate and support rural hospice family caregivers managing pain and other distressing symptoms in the home.
