Alan A. and Edith L. Wolff Distinguished Professor of Molecular Microbiology, School of Medicine

Work in Dr. Sibley’s laboratory focuses on understanding the cellular microbiology of protozoan parasites that cause human diseases. They focus primarily on Toxoplasma gondii, which causes the common and sometimes debilitating infection toxoplasmosis, which is most severe in people with weakened immune systems. His laboratory also studies Cryptosporidium infection, a major cause of diarrheal disease in young children from developing parts of the world. Studies in the Sibley laboratory range from examining the genetic diversity of different parasite strains to functional studies of how these parasites cause disease. Dr. Sibley’s lab team is also working to develop improved diagnostics and new treatments.
