Melanie L. Yarbrough, PhD

Assistant Professor of Pathology & Immunology, School of Medicine; Assistant Director of Clinical Microbiology, Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Dr. Yarbrough’s research has focused on evaluating methods for isolation and identification of urinary pathogens, including multi-drug resistant organisms. She is interested in the continued improvement of diagnostic methods for urinary tract infections (UTI) and other important infections, with an emphasis on identification of resistance mechanisms. Her additional studies aim to characterize the urinary microbiome to explore links between characteristic microbial communities and the presence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and UTI. Together, these studies will provide opportunities for improvement of both diagnostic and antimicrobial stewardship of genitourinary diseases that have a major impact on public health.
