Michael Durkin’s research interests focus on improving patient care by reducing healthcare-associated infections. His investigative research has included: central line-associated bloodstream infections; catheter-associated urinary tract infections; surgical site infections; and Clostridium difficile infections. Some of his current research goals include reducing antibiotic use in hospitals and the community, exploring the relationship between the microbiome and healthcare-associated infections, and identifying ways to prevent infections with hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.
