Philip Payne’s public health-relevant research, practice, advocacy, and teaching activities are broadly related to interventional approaches to the use of electronic health records in order to address modifiable risk factors for disease and enable patient-centered decision making; the study of human factors and workflow issues surrounding the optimal use of healthcare information technology; and the design and evaluation of open-science platforms that enable collaborative and cumulative approached to biomedical data analytics. In 2023, Payne was named to a National Academy of Medicine committee that will create a code of conduct on AI in health, medical care and health research.
