Rachel E. Sachs, JD, MPH

Treiman Professor of Law, School of Law

Professor Sachs’ research is in the area of innovation policy. Her work explores questions of innovation and access to health-related technologies of all types, considering how law helps or hinders these questions. In her research, she examines the interaction of intellectual property law, food and drug regulation, and health law and identifies potential problems and solutions that lie at the intersection of these fields. Her work extends to some of the most pressing problems facing law and public health researchers today, including access to medicines in developing countries, pharmaceutical pricing, and the development of drugs for neglected diseases. Professor Sachs is also a non-resident fellow at the USC-Brookings Schaeffer Initiative for Health Policy and in 2022 was named to the editorial board of the new, Health Affairs Scholar, a journal of emerging and global health policy.
