Dr. Lawrence has a long-standing interest in bridging the medical and public health worlds regarding infectious diseases. His research interest is to better understand the natural history, impact, and mitigation of potentially large-scale infectious disease outbreaks.

Dr. Lawrence’s research projects have included analyses of unusual influenza epidemiological patterns, assessing the performance of triage tools as part of altered standards of care protocols during an influenza pandemic, and clinical trials to assess the safety and efficacy of viral treatments and vaccines. He serves as a frequent advisor to local and state public health agencies regarding preparedness for bioterrorism and emerging infections.
