MO and IL Marketplace Premiums Net of Subsidies

Missouri and Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace 2014 to 2017 net-of-subsidy 2nd-lowest silver premium analysis for 27-year-old individuals

This interactive map allows the user to see who is affected, and how subsidized premiums have changed over time. Because the subsidy calculation includes a cap on premium paid that is based on income, lower income groups are not affected much by the sharp increases reported in 2017. However, those who earn close to four times the federal poverty level ($47,080 for an individual in 2017) will be affected. Shopping for a less expensive plan may help, but increases will still be high for this group. Meanwhile, as subsidies offset the difference in lower income groups, the share of costs borne by the federal government increases.
