Dr. Hugo is interested in global health as it relates to radiation medicine, mostly for oncology but also in emerging areas of radiation medicine such as cardiac radioablation. Specifically, his lab collaborates with clinics such as Liga Nacional Contra el Cáncer/Instituto de Cancerología (LIGA/INCAN) in Guatemala City, Guatemala to help modernize radiation oncology technology and treatment practices globally. This work involves partnership with radiation oncology vendors and funding sponsors to bring new technology into clinics, developing and deploying training programs, and the development of new technology at WashU specifically designed to improve efficiency and effectiveness of therapy around the world.
