Dr. Sumino’s research interests are clinical trials in asthma, comparative effectiveness research in obstructive lung disease, and translational studies in respiratory virus infection. A clinician investigator, she been engaged in the implementation of multiple clinical studies, and has been intricately involved with the planning, recruitment and implementation of those projects, as a PI, site PI, or Co-I and has been actively involved in activities with the American Lung Association Asthma Clinical Research Center network, one of the largest asthma networks in the U.S. She is leading several multi-center trials in asthma funded by NIH and pharmaceutical companies and led ASIST (Asthma Symptom-based Inhaled Steroid in African American children) funded by PCORI, which is a community-engaged pragmatic study in asthmatic children. She has also been engaged in patient and stakeholder engagement in clinical research and led the development of patient advisory group at American Lung Association.
