Megan Baldridge studies interactions of the intestinal commensal microbiota with viral and bacterial pathogens, and the regulation of these interactions by the mucosal innate immune system. Her lab also explores viral evolution and phenotypic alterations in different immunological and anatomical contexts, using norovirus as a model. Infectious diseases such as norovirus are a substantial public health concern, and understanding the factors that contribute to transmission and severity of viral infection will help in prevention of epidemic outbreaks.
