Washington University faculty, community-academic partners and esteemed governmental health experts have authored an important article for the St. Louis American concerning disparities in vaccine distribution among Black and Brown St. Louisans and cite a national poll, which outlines fear among respondents to receiving the vaccine.
The article is co-authored by the CEO of the St. Louis Regional Health Commission, Angela Brown, MPH; Will Ross, MD, MPH and WUSTL Professor of Medicine;
The article entitled, “A COVID-19 paradox — overcoming disparities and vaccine mistrust” cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which reports, “Black Americans are 1.4 times more likely to contract the virus, 3.7 times more likely to need hospital-level care and 2.8 times more likely to die from COVID-19, compared to white Americans.”
Responses by Black participants in a Pew Research Center survey who have “concerns” over inoculation, acquiring COVID-19 and hospitalization are also cited.
